Despite the name, the Purple Finch leans more raspberry than purple. Roger Tory Peterson famously described it as a sparrow dipped in cranberry juice, which is about as accurate as bird descriptions get. New Hampshire picked well in 1957. This illustration captures that cranberry-dipped vibe against a soft sage backdrop.

Cranberry and sage deserve a surface that treats them right. Museum-quality thick matte paper gives the illustration a painterly feel with no shiny overlay, and the weight of the stock makes it frame-ready on arrival. Small, quiet, and sharper than it has any right to be.
